JOHOR BARU, May 5 — The Johor government and the Immigration Department today had a discussion on several proposed measures to improve the service level at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complexes at both land border crossings in the state.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that the matters raised and discussed were regarding the administrative structure at the CIQ’s of both Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) in Johor Baru and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) in Gelang Patah.

He said the discussions involved a study on the addition of X-ray scanners for bus passengers, a more efficient management system, the addition of passenger busses, and the enforcement of bus routes.

Earlier, Ruslin made a working visit and inspection at the BSI CIQ’s operations here this morning.

He announced a new shift management system for the immigration counters at both BSI and KSAB in an effort to improve traffic flow during peak hours from 5am to 8am.

Ruslin said that the implementation of the new system, concerning the morning change of shift, will take place by next week.

The pre-dawn peak hours caters mainly to the thousands of Malaysians who travel daily to work in Singapore.

Since last month, Onn Hafiz has been actively engaging with the federal agencies that operate the checkpoint’s clearance after receiving public complaints.
