KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 — Malaysia today recorded an additional 5,720 new Covid-19 cases, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The cases reported in the last 24 hours is a slight drop from the 5,736 cases yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said this brings the total number of cases to 2,887,780.

In his daily Covid-19 statement, he said 43 cases or 0.8 per cent are in categories 3, 4, and 5, while 5,677 cases or 99.2 per cent are in categories 1 and 2.

Out of the 5,720 new cases, 130 were imported while the rest were local transmissions.

There are current 114 patients in intensive care units (ICU) with 85 confirmed with Covid-19 while another 29 are suspected or under investigation.

Another 56 cases require respiratory assistance.

He also announced that the ministry has recorded 15 new Covid-19 clusters, bringing the total active clusters to 332.

On a positive note, another 3,968 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recovery rate to 96.8 per cent.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced latest effective reproduction numbers (Rt) of Covid-19 infections according to states, with Perlis topping the list 1.24, slightly lower than yesterday’s 1.29, followed by 1.20 in Johor,  1.19 in Penang. 1.17 in Kedah, 1.16 in Sabah and 1.14 in Melaka and Putrajaya.

Selangor has an Rt of 1.13, Negeri Sembilan 1.11, Kuala Lumpur 1.09, Kelantan 1.08, Pahang 1.06, Terengganu and Sarawak both recorded 1.02 and Labuan is the safest place in the country with 0.0. — Bernama
