KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — The shenanigans of a VIP’s personal chauffeur who impersonated a police officer to extort money from criminals were unmasked when the long arm of the law caught up with the man during an anti-narcotics raid yesterday.

The 25-year-old suspect was picked up at a condominium unit in Bandar Tun Razak at 3.15pm, following the arrest of his friend at the condominium's car park about 10 minutes earlier, for alleged possession of a packet of what was believed to be methamphetamine.

Cheras police chief, ACP Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said police also seized 40 Eramin 5 pills, 23 packets of methamphetamine, RM800 and a Mercedes Benz car ignition key at the unit.

“Subsequently, the suspects led police to the car where the uniform of an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) with a tag bearing the name, ‘Mohd Nur’, police vest, a pair of shoes commonly worn by police officers and other drugs were found,” he said when contacted here today.

Abdul Ghani added that initial investigations revealed that the chauffeur had ordered the uniform from a tailor, who was not accredited with the Royal Malaysia Police, to extort money.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 39B, 39A(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile in Bukit Kayu Hitam, the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment detained 17 Myanmars including two women early today for attempting to enter the country illegally.

Army Sixth Brigade commander Brig-Gen Abdul Aziz Ismail said the illegals, aged between 16 and 40, were hauled up near the Post 1 sector at the Malaysia-hailand border here at 1.30am.

“They were detained after a patrol team saw a group of people in a rubber estate,” he said in a statement here. — Bernama
