BAGAN DATUK, April 21 — Perak will have another Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) with the construction of Bagan Datuk MRSM, which is expected to be completed in 2020.

The construction of the ninth MRSM in the state kicked off today with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi officiating the ground-breaking ceremony.

Perak currently has MRSM in Taiping, Gerik, Lenggong, Pasir Salak, Pengkalan Hulu, Parit, Kuala Kangsar and Trolak.

The establishment of the notable educational institution is hoped to be the catalyst to the development of the constituency and boost the local economy, while opening more education opportunities to Perak-born children in particular.

The Bagan Datuk MRSM will adopt the Ulul Albab education system, which include Al-Quran Studies (memorisation) to produce students with capability to face the challenging era of globalisation.

Mara director-general Datuk Azhar Abdul Manaf said the Bagan Datuk MRSM would be the seventh to implement the Ulul Albab system after the MRSM in Gemenceh (N. Sembilan), Sungai Besar (Selangor), Kepala Batas (Penang), Kota Putra (Terengganu), Semporna (Sabah) and Ketereh (Kelantan).

“The system would produce an Ulul Albab generation who are capable of memorising 30 juzuk (parts) of the Quran and understanding its meaning.

“The construction of the college also proved the government’s commitment to preparing good educational infrastructure for the next generation,” he said.

There are currently 54 MRSMs in the country. — Bernama
