PETALING JAYA, Aug 4 ― Umno permanent chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin urged Terengganu Mentri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman and his predecessor Datuk Seri Ahmad Said today to stop their public spat as the country is watching.
Instead, he advised them to iron out their differences quietly.
“This is an internal problem. They should not be talking about it in the open… the people are watching us.
“We should solve this and show the people that we are united and that Umno is a strong party,” he told reporters when met at the Tabung Haji complex.
Badruddin also urged party members to stick together during this crisis to ensure things did not get any worse.
“Let’s support each other and not ‘merajuk’ (sulk) and insult the party that has brought us to where we are today,” he said.
Ahmad Said and another Umno assemblyman, Ghazali Taib, have both criticised Ahmad Razif’s leadership.
Yesterday, the Terengganu MB affirmed there will not be early state elections and insisted all was well within his administration.
This is despite claims from Umno’s Ajil assemblyman Ghazali that the majority of state lawmakers were unhappy with the political situation there.
It was reported that Ahmad Razif had proposed early state elections as a solution to the leadership crisis between him and his predecessor Ahmad Said.
According to The Star, there may be new developments at the state legislative assembly when it sits next Monday that could result in a hung government in Terengganu, as Ahmad Said and Ghazali might rebel.
In the last state assembly sitting in March, Ahmad Said, who was replaced in 2014, sought unsuccessfully to table a no-confidence motion against Ahmad Razif.
Umno holds 17 seats in the 32-seat Terengganu state legislative assembly while opposition parties PAS and PKR have 14 and one, respectively.
