KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) — Although Malaysia has been in the forefront in terms of women empowerment and allowing more females in the top ranking jobs, the number needs to be pushed further to allow diversification in the decision-making process, said Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDEC).
Its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, said this was especially needed in the Malaysian cabinet as this was where the policies were being made.
“Having more women will smoothen and strengthen any policies made as women are critical in the thinking process and perfectionists,” she said.
Yasmin was one of the panellists during a session, “Women in Tech”, at the two-day Wild Digital 2016 Conference here today.
She said currently the percentage of women in the government sector was significantly strong, with about 37 per cent of them in the ministries.
“As for MDEC, we have about 30 per cent in our top management,” she said.
She also urged companies and organisations to give women a bigger role to improve their confidence and promote gender equality in the workplace. — Bernama
