GEORGE TOWN, June 8 — An Islamic school in Teluk Kumbar will be given a RM15 million expansion through a collaboration between the Penang state government and Ideal Property Group.

The Al-Itqan Education Centre, which included primary and secondary schools, will be expanded with the construction of four new blocks on 2.98 acres of land.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, in announcing the project today, said the four-storey buildings will house 20 classrooms, a surau, a computer room, a multipurpose hall and other facilities.

"The state government has allocated the funds and the project will be developed by Ideal Property Group," he said.

Currently, the primary school is located in rented houses near the site while the secondary school is located about 300m away. The primary school has 250 students while the secondary has 70 students.

Lim said the completed new blocks, expected by 2018, will allow the school to take in 1,000 students.

The Al-Itqan Education Centre started operations in 1998 and its operations expenses are dependent on school fees and contributions from the public.
