KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Pakatan Harapan will organise forums opened by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy this weekend in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, a DAP lawmaker said today.
DAP publicity chief Tony Pua, who is Petaling Jaya Utara MP, said the former prime minister and ex-Umno president will open the forums in the Selangor and Perak federal constituencies that will also feature Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, activists Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and Maria Chin Abdullah, as well as Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) leaders.
“Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote opening address of the colloquium in both Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
“DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang will close each day’s session,” Pua said in a statement.
Dr Mahathir said previously that he would campaign for candidates who support the Citizens’ Declaration, a petition that calls for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s resignation.
The Sungai Besar by-election is a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Budiman Mohd Zohdi, PAS’s Dr Abdul Rani Osman and Amanah’s Azhar Abdul Shukur, while the Kuala Kangsar by-election is contested by four candidates: BN’s Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid, PAS’s Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Amanah’s Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
