BUTTERWORTH, Dec 31 — Tourism Malaysia Penang will cooperate with travel agencies to monitor the safety of tourists during the rainy season and strong winds.

Its deputy director Haryanty Abu Bakar said the collaboration was important to give advice and awareness to tourists, especially, over exposure to outdoor activities and their proximity to the sea.

"We want to ensure the safety of tourists, especially those involved in outdoor activities, during unpredictable weather conditions because safety aspects must be taken into account by every travel agency," Haryanty said after launching the Charity Countdown 2015 programme to help flood victims raise funds.

Tourists are encouraged to use the Penang Hop On Hop Off buses as public transport since the service was comfortable and it went around the urban areas, up to the Batu Ferringhi beach.

About the Charity Countdown 2015 programme, Haryanty said the programme started today and would continue until Jan 9 while the Tourism Malaysia Penang Office would be the collection centre for donations.

The programme is in collaboration with the Penang Bridge Plus branch, Shell petrol station Mak Mandin branch (Butterworth), Syarikat Elang Wah Sdn Bhd (Penang Hop On Hop Off bus operators) and Pi Mai FM radio station. — Bernama
