SINGAPORE, Nov 7 — Italian Luminarie light sculptures, an expanded event ground, a European-style Festive Market, as well as traditional rides and games to enthral visitors. That’s what you’ll see at the Gardens by the Bay when it stages its second edition of Christmas Wonderland, which will run from November 28 to January 3 next year.
Hailed as “Singapore’s biggest yuletide fair” by organisers Blue Sky Events and Gardens by the Bay at 35,000sqm, this year’s edition will be twice as big as last year’s event.
A crowd favourite, the Luminarie light sculptures, will make a return. Handmade by Italian craftsmen using white-wood, the sculptures will be placed amid the greenery within the Supertree Grove, Dragonfly Bridge and Flower Dome.
A brand-new floral display will be set up at the Flower Dome, which will feature an 11m tall pyramid decked with toys towering over the display.
The Fairground will also offer an array of traditional carnival rides, including a Helter Skelter, which at 14m, will be the tallest slide in Singapore; a vintage-style carousel and a trackless train. Visitors can also pit their skills at game stalls with offerings such as Extreme Basketball or Can Smash.
Over at the Ice Palace at Supertree Grove, visitors can make snow angels and snowmen at the Snow Playground, or ice skate at the rink.
Food lovers can find a variety of options at the Spiegeltent, which will offer a specially curated festive menu; while at the Festive Market, specially-built restaurant units proffer international cuisine and wines.
Visitors can also catch choral and theatrical performances, singer-songwriter sessions as well as parades.
“We wanted the nostalgia of the 1980s, where we had groups of families looking at the beautiful light structures and taking lots of pictures,” said Sarah Martin, director at Blue Sky Events. “We wanted to show people something that could be translated, something that went beyond age and language.” — TODAY
