KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — The Sustainable Seafood Festival (SSF) will be held here from June 7 to 8 to drive home the message on the need to maintain the health of Malaysian marine resources.

With the theme, “Hooked on Sustainable Seafood for A Healthy Ocean”, the festival will be held at The Intermark Kuala Lumpur, according to a statement from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)-Malaysia.

Its executivedirector and chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Dionysius Sharma said Malaysians were the biggest consumers of seafood in Southeast Asia, averaging about 52 kg of seafood per person per year.

He said it was important for people to understand how their seafood choices impacted the ocean.

“There’s an urgent need to expand the sustainable seafood movement from how a consumer makes an ocean-friendly decision when shopping and dining to sustainable seafood sourcing by business and industry players,” he added. — Bernama
