LOS ANGELES, July 4 – If you could create your dream airport what would it include? According to 10,000 international travellers, the most coveted feature would be a movie theatre.
In a Skyscanner survey released this week, the most popular airport facility for whiling away tedious layovers and wait times for nearly half (49 per cent) of respondents, was a cinema.
If travellers could build their own airport, other facilities they’d add include sleep pods (36 per cent), a library (32 per cent), park (31 per cent), vanity area (30 per cent), and kids’ play area (21 per cent).
Interestingly, many of these features are already offered at the award-winning Singapore Changi Airport, which was named the world’s best airport by Skytrax earlier this year.
In addition to a movie complex, the airport hub also boasts tropical rooftop gardens, a Balinese-themed swimming pool and Jacuzzi, free foot massages and an entertainment deck where families can play Xbox Kinect, Xbox 360. Kids can also release pent-up energy at the playground.
The Hong Kong International Airport likewise has a built-in UA IMAX theatre that shows a range of IMAX 2D and 3D movies.
Recently the Abu Dhabi International Airport also rolled out sleep pods that allow tired passengers to cocoon themselves in self-contained capsules which convert into flat beds and slide fully shut.
Dubai Airport offers similar services with the SnoozeCubes, soundproof lie-flat units.
Interestingly, some flyers (five per cent) also named a karaoke bar as their dream airport amenity.
