SEOUL, Aug 9 — Blackpink have apologised to disappointed fans after their 10th anniversary reunion was overshadowed by criticism of the group’s limited, last-minute celebrations.

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa reunited in Seoul yesterday, exactly a decade after the K-pop superstars made their debut, for a meet-and-greet with just 40 fans at the National Museum of Korea.

The milestone celebration, however, prompted frustration among some Blinks after the event was announced only two days beforehand.

The four members later addressed the disappointment during a Weverse livestream, with Jisoo acknowledging that the group had fallen short in communicating its plans to fans.

“We prepared a small event, but originally we wanted to see many more people,” Jisoo said, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.

“We knew this was an important day, but I think there was a problem with our communication. We’re sorry.”

She added: “I want to say I’m sorry and that I love the Blinks who may have felt a little disappointed. I hope you understand how we feel.”

Despite the controversy, the livestream offered fans a rare chance to see all four stars together as they looked back on the decade since Blackpink debuted under YG Entertainment with the album Square One in 2016.

“Today is the day Blackpink turns 10 years old,” Jisoo said. 

“It’s an important day for us. Thank you.”

Rosé said the milestone hardly felt like a full decade had passed.

“They say time flies when you’re having fun, and I think these 10 years really did,” she said. 

“It doesn’t feel like it’s been 10 years.”

She also prepared a cake and bouquets for her bandmates, prompting Jennie to call her “the romantic of our group.”

Lisa, meanwhile, admitted she had been anxious ahead of the anniversary celebrations.

“I was so nervous today that I couldn’t even eat,” she said. 

“I was listening to Blackpink songs while getting my hair and makeup done.”

The limited anniversary plans became a particularly sensitive issue for fans given the scale of the members’ individual careers since they chose not to renew their solo contracts with YG Entertainment in 2023.

The quartet remain signed to YG for Blackpink’s group activities, but have since pursued separate ventures.

Jennie founded OA Entertainment, Jisoo established Blissoo and Lisa launched Lloud, while Rosé signed with The Black Label.

Blackpink nevertheless reunited last year for their “Deadline” world tour, which opened with two stadium concerts in Goyang drawing a combined audience of 78,000.

The tour went on to span 33 shows across 16 cities before concluding in Hong Kong in January.

The quartet also released their third EP, Deadline, in February, their first album in three years and five months.
