KOTA BARU, Oct 2 ― Negri Sembilan FC have successful brought back three full points after edging Kelantan United (KUFC) 1-0 in the second Group C Malaysia Cup action at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
Negeri Sembilan, which came with the status of Premier League champions, dominated the match by continuously attacking the host’s goalmouth.
The best chance for Negri Sembilan was created in the 14th minute through Thierry Akono in the penalty box but the ball was parried out by KUFC goalkeeper Mohamad Ramdhan Ab Hamid.
The hosts who deployed a counter-attacking style almost scored a goal via a powerful drive by skipper Fakhrul Zaman Wan Abdullah Zawawi from 35 metres outside the penalty box but it was denied by Negri Sembilan goalkeeper Damien Chein Khai Kim.
Both the teams trooped back to their locker rooms after succeeding to keep their goal intact at the end of the first half.
Both the teams began to take a cautious stance and turned defensive to prevent either teams from scoring.
Until the 70th minute, the two teams found it hard to break the impasse for a goal with both their defence machinery invincible to each other’s attacks.
Negri Sembilan’s goal was scored by substitute Muhammad Ferris Danial Mat Nasir in the 80th minute when he cleverly pushed in a cross from a teammate from the right side of the KUFC goal.
With the goal, KUFC were once again disappointed for not earning any points after losing 0-3 in the first group match to Kedah. ― Bernama
