PRAGUE, June 22 — The 50th edition of Czech Republic's Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will welcome 59-year-old American actor Richard Gere with a Crystal Globe for Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema.

Taking place July 3-11 in the western town of Karlovy Vary — a spa town also known as Carlsbad — the KVIFF will also open with a screening of "Time Out of Mind," presented by the actor himself.

Gere stars as George, a man made homeless and searching for his daughter, in a film co-starring Jena Malone ("Into the Wild," "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay") and directed by Oren Moverman of festival circuit favorites "Rampart" and "The Messenger."

Other guests at the festival include George Romero of "Night of the Living Dead," presenting a restored version of 1951 Powell & Pressburger comedy "Tales of Hoffmann," Japanese auteur Sion Sono, who will present the 1995 farm animal adventure "Babe," and Harvey Keitel, who appears in Paolo Sorrentino's KVIFF film "Youth."— AFP
