SINGAPORE, May 14 — Following the successful launch of the comic-book version of blockbuster television series The Journey: A Voyage last May, MediaCorp will be releasing its comic-book sequel, The Journey: Tumultuous Times, on May 18. A Voyage has sold more than 10,000 copies to date.

To launch Tumultuous Times,
MediaCorp artistes Andie Chen, Chen Hanwei, Felicia Chin, Romeo Tan and Shaun Chen will attend a series of roadshows, beginning with a session at Nanyang Primary School on May 18. Following that, Andie Chen, Felicia Chin and Romeo Tan will also attend a meet-the-fans and autograph session at the Bras Basah branch of Popular bookstore on May 23.

The comic-book is the result of a collaboration with Popular Holdings to put The Journey TV trilogy in print to commemorate Singapore’s 50 years of nation building. It is targeted at upper primary and secondary school students, and comprises six sections. Each section includes idioms and key characters or phrases coupled with explanations for easy understanding and learning. It also aims to instil the six core values Singapore’s forefathers displayed during the nation’s early years — respect, responsibility, resilience, integrity, care and harmony.

In addition, the first section of the new comic-book will chart the historical milestones of Singapore from 1942 to 1965, to give students an overview of the important events from the Second World War up till the nation’s declaration of independence. Each of the six sections will also cover in detail a historical event, and end with a question to challenge students’ analytical skills. The Committee To Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), which supports this programme, will also be sending two complimentary copies of the comic book to all primary school libraries to encourage students to learn the history of Singapore in the Chinese language.

The Journey: Tumultuous Times comic book will retail at S$9.90 (RM26.85), and will be available at all Popular bookstores from May 18. — TODAY
