KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed lower today, dragged by losses in selected blue-chips and heavyweights.

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended 6.77 points lower at 1,869.92 after moving between 1,869.47 and 1,875 throughout the day.

Decliners led advancers by 493 to 346, with 329 counters unchanged, 440 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank shed one sen to RM9.97, Axiata slipped two sen to RM6.95 and Sime Darby slid three sen to RM9.48. Public Bank, TNB and CIMB declined eight sen each to RM19.80, RM12.30 and RM6.97 respectively.

The Finance Index fell 62.47 points to 17,384.18 and the Plantation Index eased 7.7 points to 8,953.05, and the Industrial Index rose 4.87 points to 3,214.63.

The FBM Emas Index was 36.68 points lower at 13,084.331, FBMT100 Index decreased 34.16 points to 12,648.81, FBM 70 increased 5.93 points to 14,402.46 and the FBM Ace added 26.67 points to 7,160.34.

Total volume declined to 2.77 billion units valued at RM2.099 billion from yesterday’s 2.88 billion units valued at RM2.160 billion.

Among actives, MAS and Talam Transform edged up half-a-sen each to 24 sen and 13.5 sen. Sumatec rose two sen to 49 sen, Zelan went up 1.5 sen to 40.5 sen while AT Systematization was flat at 10 sen. The trading of High-5 Conglomerate Bhd’s shares was suspended at 2.30pm today, pending the company’s announcement.

Main Market volume declined to 1.918 billion units worth RM1.962 billion from 2.12 billion units worth RM2.016 billion yesterday.

Turnover on the ACE market increased to 790.61 million shares valued at RM127.14 million from yesterday’s 707.15 million shares worth RM133.162 million.

Warrants decreased to 39.10 million units worth RM5.68 million from 41.21 million units worth RM6.88 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 101.67 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 354.49 million, construction 219.11 million, trade and services 808.19 million, technology 53.59 million, infrastructure 17.52 million, SPAC 16.56 million, finance 55.03 million, hotels 2.78 million, properties 256.74 million, plantations 23.65 million, mining 170,500, REITs 9.07 million and closed/fund 63,600. — Bernama
