BUTTERWORTH, Sept 27 — The All Malaysian Indian Progressive Front (IPF) has applied to become a component party of Barisan Nasional (BN), with Penang as the starting point before the move is taken to the national level.
Its president Datuk T. Loganathan said the application was driven by its longstanding loyalty to BN, despite never having been given any positions.
He said IPF had remained loyal to BN even after the coalition lost the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018, when several other component parties chose to leave.
“IPF hopes its application to become a BN component party will receive due consideration, with Penang serving as the starting point before the initiative is taken to the national level,” he said in his speech at the Penang IPF assembly here today.
He also hoped that the BN leadership would consider giving IPF the opportunity to contest suitable state seats where the party had a potential to win.
Meanwhile, Penang BN chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir said he would bring the application to the Umno supreme council meeting before it was submitted to the Umno president, who is also the BN chairman.
Musa said Penang IPF was among the organisations that had actively supported BN, including during by-elections and state elections. — Bernama
