KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — Bursa Malaysia closed broadly higher today on bargain hunting.
At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended 12.46 points firmer at 1,875.8, after touching an intra-day low of 1,864.19.
The Finance Index soared 136.94 points to 17,421.76, Industrial Index added 0.18 of-a-point to 3,210.98 and the Plantation Index rose 14.03 points to 8,940.38.
The FBM Emas Index was 89.79 points higher at 13,118.3, FBMT100 Index appreciated 86.06 points to 12,680.52, FBM 70 surged 104.88 points to 14,407.51 and the FBM Ace jumped 113.51 points to 7,131.66.
Advancers trounced decliners by 555 to 329, with 301 counters unchanged, 422 untraded and 11 others were suspended.
Total volume increased to 3.01 billion units valued at RM2.239 billion from 2.08 billion units valued at RM1.942 billion last Friday.
The higher local market was also in tandem with its regional peers.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was 0.28 per cent higher at 24,600.08, Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index gained 1.74 per cent to 2,223.33 and South Korea’s Kospi appreciated 0.35 per cent to 2,080.33.
Among actives, Sumatec added three sen to 49.5 sen, MAS rose a sen to 23 sen, Talam Transform edged up half-a-sen to 13.5 sen and China Stationery gained two sen to 11.5 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank soared 11 sen to RM9.98, Public Bank rose eight sen to RM19.82 and CIMB increased five sen to RM7.02.
TNB and Axiata were flat at RM12.40 and RM6.94, respectively.
Main Market volume rose to 2.24 billion units worth RM2.09 billion from 1.67 billion units worth RM1.84 billion last Friday.
Turnover on the ACE market appreciated to 672.26 million shares valued at RM131.92 million from Friday’s 344.40 million shares valued at RM82.32 million.
Warrants increased to 44.65 million units worth RM5.22 million from 39.74 million units worth RM5.20 million previously.
Consumer products accounted for 148.86 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 343.31 million, construction 108.91 million, trade and services 1.20 billion, technology 44.19 million, infrastructure 17.88 million, SPAC 27.22 million, finance 50.83 million, hotels 3.276 million, properties 277.87 million, plantations 17.07 million, mining 694,800, REITs 6.47 million and closed/fund 51,500.— Bernama
