BEIJING, May 30 — Huawei Technologies Ltd has been granted the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status by the Malaysian Government to facilitate company’s business in the country, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced.

Saying that he was impressed with the giant Chinese telecommunication company rate of expansion and development, Najib said the AEO status would shorten custom clearance from five to just two days.

Since starting the scheme in 2010, Malaysia has so far granted about 35 companies such status with more than 50 applications still pending.

The AEO scheme, a global one drawn up by the World Customs Organisation, ensures speedy and secure movement of goods, minimal documentation, minimal human intervention and predictability of customs processes.

“I hope this status will help Huawei to make more investments into Malaysia. I am most impressed with Huawei which I see as the future face of China,” said Najib at a dialogue session with company founder Ren Zhengfei and his senior management staff here today.

The Malaysian leader and his delegation earlier toured the newly opened Huawei Exhibition Hall which showcases the latest development and solutions by the company.

Ren in welcoming Najib’s announcement said the 25-year-old company now had 150,000 employees and of which 50 per cent were involved in research and development.

The company now operates in 170 countries with an annual revenue of US$39.6 bilion (RM127.31 billion)l in 2013 and 66 per cent of its revenue was from outside China.

Stressing that his company was one of the world’s leader in telecommunication network equipment and solutions provider, Ren said his company was an ethical one where observing and assimilating local culture was important.

He also told Najib that his company would continue to expand its businesses in Malaysia which was also the company’s regional headquarters covering Asean and Australia.

Najib was told that Huawei started business in Malaysia in 2001 and within a few years had become the largest Telco solution provider in the country. Huawei Malaysia has a staff strength of 1,900 of which 70 per cent were Malaysians.

Huawei has also become the first international company to move into Iskandar, Johor where they are setting up one of the five global hosting and logistic centres.
