KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has seized fake goods valued at RM69 million between 2020 and Feb 28 this year, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Minister Senator Fuziah Salleh said the seizures involved 976 cases and the goods included clothes, food, drinks, cosmetics, leather goods, medicines and communication devices.

“The seized counterfeit goods will be disposed of after each case is resolved either through a fine or a compound,” she said.

She added that a total of 99 arrests were made with fines and compounds amounting to RM3.5 million were imposed against those convicted of offences under the Trademarks Act 2019.

If convicted, a person can be fined up to RM10,000 for each of the goods bearing the falsely applied registered trademark or imprisoned for up to three years or both and for a second or subsequent offence, fined up to RM20,000 for each of the goods bearing the falsely applied registered trademark or imprisoned for up to five years or both. — Bernama
