KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) today confirmed that Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim is no longer its chairman.

LTH said it received his letter of resignation yesterday.

“LTH confirms the receipt of the letter of resignation by Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim as the chairman on 23 May 2018.

“LTH wishes many thanks to Abdul Azeez for his services as LTH board of director and chairman,” the statement read.

Abdul Azeez was appointed to the LTH board of directors in 2011 and was then appointed as its chairman on July, 2013.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided and seized over RM500,000 in cash of various currencies, jewellery and luxury watches in several houses and offices in four states occupied by Abdul Azeez.

The Umno supreme council member yesterday said he had drafted his resignation letter and was waiting to tender it to the next minister in-charge of Islamic affairs under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.

The Baling MP said he considered himself to have “personally” resigned as the chairman but was awaiting an official acknowledgement from the government as he said it was the proper way for him to relinquish his position.

The fund, which was established to facilitate pilgrimages for Malaysian Muslims, was previously under the purview of Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom as the minister in charge of Islamic affairs, under the Prime Minister’s Department.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has yet to name a minister to that portfolio.
