KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — The DAP lost five out of 12 seats in the Sarawak state election today that it had previously won in 2011 according to unofficial figures, indicating that Chinese support has begun shifting to Barisan Nasional (BN).

SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian won Batu Kawah, polling 6,414 votes against DAP candidate Christina Chiew’s 4,329 votes.

SUPP also wrested back Repok, Meradong and Piasau from the DAP, according to official numbers.

Direct BN candidate Datuk Tiong Thai King won Dudong against DAP’s Yap Hoi Liong, who had previously won the seat in 2011 with a majority of 317 votes.

The DAP managed to defend seven seats: Kota Sentosa held by Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen, Padungan, Pending, Bukit Assek, Pelawan, Pujut and Tanjong Batu formerly known as Kidurong.

The DAP did not win any new seat among the 31 seats it contested, losing to BN.

PKR, on the other hand, retained all three seats it won previously: Ba’kelalan, Krian and Batu Lintang.
