KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — National solo explorer, Shahrom Abdullah has now skied 142km from Messner Inlet in the Malaysian Seven Contingents Exploration Club (KE7B)’s South Pole All The Way Expedition 2015.

KE7B expedition adviser, Datuk Akmar Hisham Mohd Yusof said the fine weather had assisted Shahrom, 36, to ski consistently daily since the mission began nine days ago on December 11.

“I have been receiving reports from Shahrom via satellite phone that he is progressing very well at a consistent routine of 50 minutes of skiing with 10 minutes of rest,” he said in a statement here today.

Akmar Hisham said it was only on the eighth day when the weather became challenging with dark clouds and snow heaps as high as 0.7 metre and two metres wide which made it difficult for the explorer to ski.

Apart from that, he said Shahrom also performed navigational tasks in rotation with two other explorers from United States and Jordan, on a similar mission.

Shahrom, a national extreme sports athlete is currently on a 60-day mission across South Pole on ski over 1,000km from Messner Inlet to the zero degrees point.

If he successfully completes the mission, Shahrom will be creating a record as the first Malaysian to cross the Antartica continent by skiing 1,000km. — Bernama
