PETALING JAYA, Feb 2 — Police are still clueless over the person responsible for the arson attack at the office of Mar Thoma Syrian Church in Klang on Jan 7.
South Klang police chief ACP Kamarul Zaman Mamat said police had yet to establish the motive and the identity of the suspect.
“We are waiting for the forensic report from the Fire and Rescue Department to assist with our investigations,” he said.
Kamarul said police recorded statements of witnesses and also several people from the church’s management.
“We have ruled out religious attack and are looking at other possible motives,” he said.
Kamarul said there were no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras near the premises.
No one was inside the double-storey house, converted into an office, when the incident occurred at 3am.
A blue Proton Savvy parked at the office’s front porch was in flames when police arrived, but was put out by the Fire and Rescue Department.
Losses due to the attack were approximately RM15,000.
The church’s priest Rev Mathew Pumoose said he was in Kuantan when the incident took place and was informed by neighbhours.
He told Malay Mail he could not think of any motive behind the incident.
