KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 18 — The Education Ministry has assured that delivery of furniture and text books to schools affected by floods will be completed by month-end to ensure a smooth schooling session this year.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said they are currently ordering books and furniture, but the process will take time as the orders are made on a large scale.

“It will take up to two weeks for the text books to be reprinted, so I estimate that they will be ready by the end of the month. Many books need to be replaced,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Taylor’s University at the launch of the Public and Private Institution of Higher Learning Strategic Cooperation at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Digital Learning Centre in UMT here today.

Also present were UMT vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ibrahim Komoo and Taylor’s University vice-chancellor and president, Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Said.

Meanwhile, Idris said the cooperation would create a strategic partnership network to allow public and private universities to exchange expertise.

“With this collaboration we can see how a university develops its students.  It will allow the universities to learn the best way to produce excellent students with the expertise that they already have.

“Collaboration should be done between universities in the country and not only with foreign universities,” he said. — Bernama
