KOTA KINABALU, Jan 14 — The Sabah Education Department has directed district education offices in the state to defer the start of the school session if any schools are affected by floods.
State Education Department director Datuk Jame Alip said schools affected by the floods can delay the start of the school session.
“The move is to ensure the safety of the students, teachers and staff of the respective schools,” he told reporters after presenting promotion letters to 50 teachers at Wisma Pendidikan, here today.
Jame Alip said so far the start of school session in three primary schools in Kudat had to be differed since the schools were flooded following heavy rain since yesterday.
The schools affected are Sekolah Kebangsaan Muhibbah, Sekolah Kebangsaan Lok Yuk and Sekolah Kebangsaan Barambangon, involving 47 teachers and 375 students.
“I have not received any report regarding news that schools in Sandakan, Beluran and Kinabatangan were closed. However, any days affected by the closure or postponement, must be replaced,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jame Alip said an allocation of RM46,311,500 had been set aside for primary and secondary schools in the state for the special assistance of RM100 per student.
“I want schools to distribute the money quickly and the schools or the Parent Teachers Association are reminded not to make any deductions,” he said. — Bernama
