KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 ― A Rela member and a Navy personnel has been arrested in suspicion of being involved in a local militant group.
According to local daily The Star, the Rela member was nabbed on June 25 in Kuala Kangsar while the Navy personnel was detained two days later by officers from the Bukit Aman's Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the Rela member was the maker of the home-made rifle seized in an earlier operation, The Star adds.
“We also believe he is supplying ammunition for training by the militants.
“The Counter Terrorism division also raided a safe house in Shah Alam on June 28,” Khalid was quoted as saying in The Star in a statement today.
The Navy personnel had allegedly assisted in smuggling the militants into the country after they had trained abroad.
There are now 19 people detained since the special operation started on April 28.
