TAWAU, June 27 — Three men escaped with about RM40,000 in cash after robbing a petrol station in Jalan Utara Baru, here early today.

Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Awang Besar Dullah said in the incident at 12.10am, three men wearing baseball caps robbed the petrol station owner and escaped with the daily collection of the company.

“During the incident, the victim was just leaving the petrol station and heading to his car when a car approached him and one of the suspects alighted from the car.

“The suspect then seized the package containing the cash from the victim and hit his head with a wrench,” he said in a statement here today.

He said police rushed to the scene as soon as they received a report of the incident, and found a car which had skidded in an area near the Tawau Sports Complex which was about 800 metres from the scene of incident.

“Preliminary investigations found that the car was the one used by the suspect in the robbery and police found two parangs and RM45 in cash,” he said.

Awang Besar said all the suspects were believed to have escaped with the cash.

Police were now hunting down the suspects and the case was being investigated under Section 395/ 397 of the Penal Code, he said. — Bernama
