NEW YORK, April 20 — Eminence Organic Skin Care is celebrating Earth Day this weekend by becoming the first skincare brand to have planted 10 million trees.

The company, which specialises in natural, organic spa products, has been planting one tree for every product sold since 2012, as part of its “Forests for the Future” program.

The programme helps to train farmers in developing countries in the process of building and maintaining sustainable Forest Gardens for the purpose of restoring the environment and supporting local communities.

Just one tree can produce around 260 pounds of oxygen per year, in addition to offering a habitat for biodiversity, stabilising the soil around it and contributing to the fertility of the land.

Eminence is not the only major beauty brand focusing its attention on the environment lately. Last month, REN Clean Skincare joined forces with the ocean-focused non profit Surfrider Foundation — a partnership that will work on helping to protect clean water and healthy, plastic-free beaches.

The move is part of a wider new “Clean to Skin, Clean to Planet” initiative launched by the brand, which has pledged to become completely “Zero Waste” by 2021.

Meanwhile, beauty giants Clarins, Coty, L’Oréal and Groupe Rocher launched a joint “Responsible Beauty Initiative” (RBI) last November, which aims to encourage sustainability within the industry, on an ethical, social and environmental level.  — AFP_Relaxnews
