NEW YORK, Jan 6 ― It might be a fashion classic, but that doesn’t mean that denim has to be basic. If the Spring/Summer 2016 shows were anything to go by, the only way to wear yours this year is boldly. So forget skinnies and 501s ― here are three on-trend ways to stand out from the crowd this season.

Rock a wedgie

Yes, that’s right. Last December Levi’s introduced a new fit for women, “the Wedgie”. Modelled on the brand’s famous vintage styles, the Wedgie designs to eliminate the potential embarrassment resulting from any “front bulge” by purposefully creating... a wedgie. The high-rise style accentuates the waist, fits snug through the hips and features inward-tilting back pockets to create “the ultimate mum butt”. It might sound alarming, but the brand is rolling out a shorts version for Spring 2016, so for now it looks like the wedgie fit is here to stay.

Print it

Printed denim was everywhere on the Spring/Summer 2016 catwalks, from the outrageously floral motifs splashed around at Versus Versace and Alexander McQueen to the organic-looking, subtly mottled effect seen at Chanel. Prints are a great way to add depth or texture to your look so embrace your wild side.

Embrace the skate

Wide, loose and baggy is one of the chicest ways to rock your denims this year. Whether you make like Chloé and opt for a relaxed fit with a drawstring waist or opt for more of a gentle flare as seen at Stella McCartney, a relaxed fit, worn low-slung, will gain you serious style points. If you’re feeling particularly daring then take inspiration from Dries Van Noten and wear your skater-style jeans short, so they hit above the ankle. ― AFP-Relaxnews
