NEW YORK, Oct 29 — The race to mobile takeout is on, with Taco Bell becoming the latest fast food chain to roll out an app that allows customers to skip the lines and place a takeout order via their mobile phone.

After Starbucks recently announced plans to launch a mobile order and pay programme across the US next year, Taco Bell has become the latest fast food behemoth to likewise tweak their free mobile app and allow customers to place an order and pay from their mobile devices.

The app also allows users to customise their order.

To drum up hype and suspense for the new feature, Taco Bell placed itself under a social media blackout on channels like Twitter, Facebook and their website over the last few days.

After placing their order and paying for their meal on the mobile app, users choose the way they want to retrieve their order — in-store or drive-thru. Food is prepared when customers arrive.

Meanwhile, owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus can also pay for their food orders at fast food chains like McDonald’s, Subway and Panera Bread with the latest Apple Pay technology.

Other fast food chains that have developed independent mobile ordering and payment apps include Domino’s Pizza, Chipotle, and Pizza Hut. — AFP-Relaxnews
