KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 — Perodua’s 2015 facelift of its hugely successful Myvi, which has enjoyed nine years of success as Malaysia’s best-selling car looks set to continue this trend for some time to come despite fierce competition from the other cars in its category with improved looks and even greater value for money.

Improvements made for the new 2015 model year sees the inclusion of enhanced safety features, better styling, and better pricing.

“The Myvi has been well accepted by the market and has so far generated a total sales volume of over 800,000 units, making it the most popular Perodua model to date,” Perodua President and CEO, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

“The Myvi has impacted a lot of lives in Malaysia and we believe that this model is still relevant and well accepted by our society. We offer our heartfelt thank you to all Malaysians for your continued support,” Aminar said.

The new Myvi comes fitted with dual airbags, alarm, immobiliser, and ISOFIX mounts as standard; anti-lock braking is fitted in all but the lowest trim variant.

A key enhancement to the new Myvi is the strengthening of its vehicle structure that enables it to better withstand frontal impacts in line with global standards, and the efforts of Perodua engineers are accordingly rewarded with the raising of its ASEAN NCAP rating from three to four stars; the continued absence of electronic stability control makes a five-star rating impossible.

Still on safety, the new Myvi comes fitted with dual airbags, alarm, immobiliser, and ISOFIX mounts as standard; anti-lock braking is fitted in all but the lowest trim variant. A new addition to the list of accessories is front corner sensors, an uncommon feature at this segment.

“This feature will assist drivers when making tricky corners when parking. In addition, this feature can be deactivated when driving or during traffic jams as not to cause unnecessary discomfort to the driver,” Aminar said.

Other new amenities in the package include the anti-snatch hook. Cleverly placed on the inside of the front passenger seat, within easy reach of the driver, but not so accessible to a snatch thief from the passenger door side; this feature was first introduced in the entry-level Axia. Also new is a retractable cup holder near the driver side air-con vent, and an upgraded multimedia system with reverse camera (Advance model only).

“These improvements were made after an extensive study on how we can bring greater value to our customers and from this study we were able to increase the value proposition by RM4,500 — through both added features and price down,” he said. Rear view of the new Perodua Myvi.

“To add a little flavour to the New Myvi, we are featuring 2 new metallic colours, which are Electric Blue (SE and Advanced variants) and Cosmic Gold (Standard G and Premium X variants) alongside favourite colours of Ozzy Orange, Mystical Purple, Glittering Silver and Ivory White (Solid),” Aminar said.

Taking the cue from the recently launched Perodua Axia, the Myvi 1.3 and 1.5 variants sport two different front fascias, with the 1.5 variant looking more ‘macho’ with tasteful rendering of black garnish.

As before, the Myvi continues with its tried and tested 1.3- and 1.5-litre DVVT engines making 90hp and 102hp respectively. Each engine variant is available with two trim levels; — the 1.3 has Standard G (manual and auto) and Premium X (auto only), whilst variants of the 1.5 consist of the SE (manual and auto) and Advance (auto only). Pricing with insurance for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia ranges from RM41,500 to RM58,900.
