KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — Ford continues its momentum in Malaysia with the announcement of its best-ever performance with April’s retail sales jumping to 1,173 units, nearly 35 per cent year-over-year, driven by continuing demand for its Ranger, Fiesta, Focus and Kuga nameplates.
“The appeal of the Ford brand continues to strengthen under our product-led transformation and a growing lineup of segment-leading Ford vehicles in Malaysia,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
“This is translating into more traffic through our showrooms across the country, and consistent sales gains.”
With retail sales rising 38 per cent year-over-year to 646 units, the new Ranger pickup continues to be Ford’s most popular nameplate in the country.
Year-to-date sales for the Ranger now stand at 2,365 units, up 37 per cent from last year.
“The unmatched versatility and capability of the Ranger truly delivers everything today’s truck customers want and require, whether it’s for work, recreation, or a combination of both,” explained Westerman.
Ford expects the recent launch of the new Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost to help further drive sales momentum through the remainder of the year.
Increasing demand for the new Fiesta also helped drive its April retail sales up more than 20 per cent year-over-year to 301 units.
“The Fiesta is a key driver of our successful product-led transformation, and the 1.0L EcoBoost engine gives this segment-leading nameplate even more ways to connect with consumers and their lifestyles,” said Westerman.
The new Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost, priced at RM93,888 (on-the-road without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia and private registration only) is available in the five-door Sport+ variant, while the continued demand for the all-new Focus helped drive year-to-date customer deliveries to 427 units, including April sales of 113 units.
The new Ford Focus is equipped with a number of segment-first features that include Active Park Assist, Active City Stop and Blind Spot Information System, as well as a class-leading safety package.
The all-new Kuga SUV, equipped with an array of smart features and technologies that include Ford’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, hands-free lift gate that operates with a gentle kicking motion, and Ford SYNC connectivity system, achieved April retail sales of 87 units, helping drive its year-to-date total to 301 units.
