KOTA KINABALU, May 22 — Limbahau assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim’s excuses for quitting the party do not make sense, said Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (PKDM) president Datuk Peter Anthony.

The PKDM leader said he did not understand the reasons given by Juil to "support the government” as the party had already made its stand clear that it would support any government of the day.

"He had never discussed with the party, as claimed. He said he wants to support the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government. But we in the party have previously made our support clear. So I don’t know the real reason.

"Maybe it’s like he said, no allocation has been received from the state government. Bandau MP Datuk Wetrom Bahanda and I have also yet to receive any. I don’t think that is a good reason, but it is up to him to decide his career path. But it does not make sense and is very awkward actually,” he said.

Peter said that the party’s division in Limbahau would remain intact despite Juil’s claims that they would leave to follow him.

"I had met them and about half of them said they will stay. The party leadership in Limbahau was formed by me, not Juil. In fact, I had put him there as a candidate,” said Peter.

Peter said that Juil had not attended several recent meetings, which indicated his feelings. However, he said that he accepted the latter’s decision as a politician and bore no ill feelings.

"We are professional politicians. It is a democratic system. I hope he finds happiness in his new party,” said Peter when speaking to reporters here today.

The Melalap assemblyman said that the party’s policy was always to support the government of the day.

Meanwhile, he also said that they were ready to support the anti-party-hopping law which is expected to be tabled during this week’s sitting.

"Yes, we will support. In fact, we should’ve done it soon after it was amended at the Parliamentary level. Hopefully, it will be done soon.

"However, even once passed, it will still take a month or two. So whoever wants to jump, better jump now. Don’t wait anymore until it is prohibited,” he quipped.

Juil had yesterday announced he would be quitting the party to be an independent assemblyman, for now, to support Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Chief Minister and his current government.

He is the latest in a slew of politicians who have crossed the floor to join the GRS government.
