KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — Cycling programmes should be intensified as they not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also sports tourism products, said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

He said the various cycling tourism packages introduced in the country had promoted domestic tourism as well as foreign tourist arrivals which indirectly contributed to economic growth.

“A total of 1,652 cycling tourism packages worth RM280,949.17 had been sold throughout the country between January and May this year.

“For the whole of last year, 5,290 similar packages were sold throughout the country with total sales of RM844,720 compared with RM581,190 in the previous year,” he said after launching the ‘Harian Metro Mountain Bike Grand Prix Cuti-Cuti Malaysia 2014’ here, today.

Also present were Tourism Malaysia Director-General Datuk Mirza Mohammad Taiyab and Harian Metro Group Editor Datuk Mustapa Omar. — Bernama
