KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 ― Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is revising its checked-in baggage policy.

Effective May 28, passengers will be allowed to check-in a maximum of two pieces of baggage, within the generous 30, 40, and 50 kg free baggage allowance included in their travel on Economy, Business and First Class, respectively.

The national carrier has also revised several new rates for excess baggage charges, at 5kg blocks.

For travel within Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, the new rate is RM45, between the peninsular and Sabah or Sarawak (RM55), Asean region (RM70), South Asia/Greater China (RM100), North Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Middle East (RM115), and Europe RM170.

“These revisions apply to all tickets, irrespective of issuance dates for travel from May 28, 2014 onwards,” MAS said in a statement today.

It said allowances for infant baggage, which is currently at 10kg for one piece, and the carriage of “Zamzam” water from the Holy Land remained the same.

For passengers who perform “Umrah and Hajj”, a special allowance of 10kg per 10-litre bottle of Zam-Zam water is allowed from Jeddah-Kuala Lumpur and onward connecting destinations.

This allowance was in addition to the existing “Free Baggage Allowance” of two-piece per 50kg on First Class, two-piece per 40kg on Business Class and two-piece per 30kg on Economy Class.

Enrich and oneworld members are entitled to the additional baggage allowance per their membership status. ― Bernama
