LOS ANGELES, Oct 1 — GoPro Inc today launched two new cameras including a ramped up version of its “HERO” line, as it battles competition from increased smartphone usage ahead of the crucial US holiday sales season.
The company priced the “HERO8 Black” at US$399 (RM 1,675) and a new dual lens GoPro MAX camera at US$499.
GoPro launched the HERO7 White, HERO7 Silver and HERO7 Black as part of its HERO series last year, helping the company report its first profit in five quarters.
Through its flagship “HERO” line and spherical camera Fusion, GoPro is trying to differentiate its premium priced offerings from smartphones with improved cameras, as it looks to lure back action junkies.
The new MAX camera will also feature four digital lenses, including the new “ultra-wide Max SuperView”, GoPro’s widest field of view ever, the company said.
The action camera maker’s shares were up nearly two per cent at US$5.27 in pre-market trading. — Reuters
