HULU TERENGGANU, Aug 2 — The Terengganu State Sports Council (MSNT) has been asked to do a comprehensive post-mortem on the state’s performance at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak which concluded on Sunday (July 31).
State Youth, Sports and Human Resource Committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat said Terengganu’s third placing behind champions Selangor and runners-up Sarawak after collecting 47 gold medals was short of their 52-gold target.
“Overall, I am satisfied with the performance but we need to find out why there was a failure to deliver in certain events when the gold medal prospects were high like athletics and silat,” he told reporters when met at an Aidilfitri open house for the Telemong state constituency here today.
However, there was a saving grace for the state when archer Nur Aqilah Yusof who won three gold medals was named the Best Sportswoman at the Sarawak Sukma.
For the record, Terengganu emerged overall champions in the Sukma four time in a row from 2008 to 2012. — Bernama
