KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — National mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing captured their first title of the season by winning the Vietnam Open.

The Malaysian mixed doubles pair who had to work hard before notching a narrow 23-21, 21-19 win over second seeds Hafiz Faisal-Shella Devi Aulia of Indonesia yesterday, had it easy against another Indonesian pair.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing beat Alfian Eko Prasetya/Annisa Saufika from Indonesia 21-16, 21-11 in straight sets.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing had previously made it to three finals this year but lost on all three occasions, namely in the Malaysian Masters (January), Poland Open in March and Taiwan Open this month.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles final, Chong Wei Feng put up a commendable performance but eventually lost to Hong Kong’s Vincent Wong 12-21, 21-14, 13-21 in three sets.

The men’s doubles final also featured Malaysian pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong but the veteran duo lost 21-18, 14-21, 7-21 to Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-Huei/Lee Yang in three sets. — Bernama
