PETALING JAYA, Feb 11 — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will set up a Department for Women’s Football soon, in line with the requirement of FIFA, the world governing body for football.

“We (FAM) are no exception to the requirement... we will set up a department for women’s football. We did not have such a department before,” said FAM secretary general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin after opening the 2016 FAM Women’s Football Seminar at the TH Hotel Kelana Jaya, today.

The three-day seminar which started today is aimed at focusing on the development of women’s football in the states and country.

Also present were FAM Executive member and Women’s Football committee chairman Brig Gen Datuk Norhuda Ahmad and the Union of European Football Association representative Beatrice Von Siebenthal.

Hamidin said in efforts to set up the department, the FAM would focus on building the National Under-21, Under-19 and Under-17 squads as well as grassroots development. — Bernama
