KUALA TERENGGANU, March 31 — More than 200 athletes, especially students from the Terengganu Sukma squad contingents had benefited from pre-university programmes organised by the Terengganu Sports Council and Higher Learning Institutions in the state.
Terengganu Sports Council director Zainal Abidin Hussin said the programme was an initiative taken by the council with the cooperation of higher learning institutions in the state through a memorandum of understanding that was signed in 2010.
“Under the programme, the participating higher learning institutions will set up counters to provide information on courses offered at their institutions and also assist athletes to fill up the necessary forms.
“Representatives from the institutions will also provide counselling and briefing sessions to athletes on ways to ease their entry process,” he told reporters after a briefing session for Terengganu Sukma athletes, here today.
More than 12 higher learning institutions and skills centres have signed the MoU with the council, including Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Kolej Tesdec and Kolej Universiti TATI.
A number of institutions also offer scholarship to students who excel in sports. — Bernama
