KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — US Ambassador Dr Anjani K Sinha has arrived in Singapore to begin his tenure, the US Embassy Singapore said today.

According to Channel News Asia (CNA), Dr Sinha said he was “deeply honoured to represent the United States in Singapore, a friend of the United States that is a leading hub for American business and a pillar of regional stability.”

He added that he looked forward to working with the government and people of Singapore to strengthen collaboration.

“President Trump has asked me to increase our ambitions for cooperation with Singapore, based on mutual respect and shared priorities,” Dr Sinha was quoted as saying.

The embassy noted that Dr Sinha’s appointment underscores the US’ commitment to working with Singapore on shared goals of prosperity and security.

“For nearly 60 years, the partnership between the United States and Singapore has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries, including in areas of emerging technology, energy security, law enforcement, and military engagements,” the embassy added.

According to the report, Dr Sinha, confirmed by the US Senate in October, was previously an orthopaedic surgeon and has decades of experience in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine.

He and his wife, retired anesthesiologist Kiki Sinha, have been married for 48 years and have two children and three grandchildren.

Dr Sinha made headlines in July during his Senate confirmation hearing, where Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth questioned his knowledge of Singapore and US-Singapore relations.

During the hearing, Dr Sinha initially overestimated the US trade surplus with Singapore, citing US$80 billion before revising it to US$18 billion; the actual figure was US$2.8 billion, according to senators.

His official biography states that he earned his medical degree from MGM Medical School and Delhi University in India, where he also completed a Master’s degree in orthopaedic surgery, and later built and led specialised practices across New York and Florida.

The embassy highlighted that Dr Sinha’s career reflects a strong commitment to healthcare collaboration across public and private sectors, and that he and his wife are involved in philanthropy supporting higher education institutions in the US and India, CNA reported.
