SINGAPORE, Oct 20 — The long-awaited sequel to Michael Mann’s 1995 crime masterpiece Heat could bring its high-stakes action to Singapore.

Speaking to Variety at the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, France, the 82-year-old director revealed that Heat 2 is “going to shoot in Chicago, Los Angeles, Paraguay and possibly some parts in Singapore.”

Filming is expected to begin in the summer of 2026, Mann told Variety

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker — known for The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and Ali (2001) — stopped short of confirming the cast but dropped several tantalising hints.

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly in early talks to play Chris Shiherlis, the role originated by Val Kilmer, who died in April after battling throat cancer and other health complications.

Adam Driver is said to be in discussions to portray a younger version of Robert De Niro’s character, Neil McCauley, while Ana de Armas has been rumoured to play Elisa, Neil’s girlfriend, in a 1988-set storyline.

Al Pacino, who starred as relentless detective Vincent Hanna, could also return — digitally.

“Ageing and de-ageing may be very important in the next film,” Mann told Variety, hinting that technology could allow Pacino to reprise his iconic role.

Released in 1995, Heat became a landmark in modern crime cinema, renowned for its tense storytelling, meticulous realism and the legendary face-off between De Niro’s master thief and Pacino’s driven LAPD detective.

The film also featured Jon Voight and Ashley Judd, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest crime thrillers ever made.
