KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Amid Celine Dion's ongoing battle with stiff-person syndrome, her older sister Claudette has given the media an update on the singer's health.
In a statement to Le Journal de Montréal, Claudette said that the family is not able to find any medicine that can treat the 55-year-old pop star. However, Claudette, 74, added that it is important to 'have hope'.
In May, Celine cancelled all her remaining shows scheduled for 2023-2024, saying she was not strong enough to tour as she battles a rare neurological disorder.
Last year, the Canadian artiste revealed that she was suffering from the rare medical condition that was affecting her singing.
“I'm so sorry to disappoint all of you once again...and even though it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything until I'm really ready to be back on stage,” the All By Myself singer tweeted.
“I'm not giving up...and I can't wait to see you again!” she added.
According to Claudette, her sister Linda has moved into Celine's home, where she lives with her three sons Rene-Charles, Eddy and Nelson.
“When I call her and she's busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and tells me that she's working hard,” said Claudette, as reported by SheMazing. “She's listening to the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible."
Claudette said that the choice to cancel the tour was the right one, and Celine needs to rest.
“She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game,” said Claudette. “At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It's important to listen to it.”
“It's innate to her, she's disciplined in every area of her life,” Claudette added. “We can't find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.”
Stiff person syndrome is a rare neurological condition which affects one or two persons out of every million. It is characterised by muscle rigidity, spasms and stiffness.
Dion last released new material in May, where she recorded music for romantic film Love Again starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and herself.
