LOS ANGELES, June 1 — Superhero sequel X-Men: Apocalypse topped the North American box office in its debut over the four-day Memorial holiday weekend, raking in nearly US$80 million (RM 329.444 million), industry figures showed yesterday.
Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass opened in the number two spot, selling US$33.5 million in tickets, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.
The Angry Birds Movie was third, earning US$24.6 million between Friday and Monday.
Another comic book-themed flick, Captain America: Civil War, was fourth with US$20 million while the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, grossed US$11.4 million for fifth place.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were:
The Jungle Book (US$9.5 million)
The Nice Guys (US$8.3 million)
Money Monster (US$5.6 million)
Love and Friendship (US$3.1 million)
