KUALA LUMPUR, October 25 — The ‘Kenduri Rakyat’ of Muar MP Syed Saddiq and singer-actress Bella Astillah drew thousands of people from all over Malaysia to celebrate the couple also known by fans as BASS.
Despite the doors to the Yong Sheng Banquet Hall in Muar opening at 1.30pm, attendees had been lining up since early morning and formed a large crowd, with people lining up until the back of the hall by the time BASS arrived at the venue.
Although there are no official figures yet, it is estimated that the crowd reached thousands of people. This resulted in both Syed Saddiq and Bella having to be escorted inside the hall by police and civil volunteer corps as people began crowding them.
“I asked for her permission to keep my speech brief because I want to spend as much time as possible with the people who have been waiting outside in the blazing heat for hours.
“We are deeply indebted to everyone who came—some traveled from Perlis, Kedah, and Terengganu, others flew in from Kuching, and some even drove up from Singapore. We apologise from the bottom of our hearts for any shortcomings.
“We never expected people to start queuing as early as 6am all the way until 2pm, so we will do our best to meet as many of you as possible,” Syed Saddiq said during his speech.
BASS arrived at the venue dressed in matching light blue traditional Malay wedding outfits with hints of gold linings desinged by Rizman Ruzaini.
Their two children Ayden and Ara were supposed to join them during their entrance to the ‘Kenduri Rakyat’ but were later advised not to by their team fearing the kids might get surrounded and overwhelmed by the crowds.
Meanwhile local social media users have been sharing clips and thoughts on the Kenduri Rakyat especially via Threads.
A post shared by Threads user @bakingnerds showed the groom’s family members giving out mineral waters to attendees waiting outside the venue.
Another clip shared by user @assnabell showed Syed Saddiq asking his team to prioritise letting the attendees into the hall which garnered praise online.
There are also several clips showing the large crowd attending the ‘Kenduri Rakyat’.
Aside from that, it was previously reported that BASS managed to raise over RM500,000 in sponsorship for their ‘Kenduri Rakyat’, which they will channel back to the people in the form of daily essentials and supplies.
Local brand Jasmine Food Corporation sponsored 10,000 packs of one kilogram fragrant rice and 200 milliliters of coconut milk as door gifts for the first 10,000 attendees.
There are also at least 15 local food and beverage vendors on site, offering coffee, pizza, fried chicken, ayam gepuk and ice cream.
BASS previously tied the knot on October 10 at Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur in an all-white ceremony attended by close family, friends and prominent political figures.
They held another reception at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre, also in Kuala Lumpur on October 18.
The celebrations will continue with another Kenduri Rakyat in Bella’s home state of Sabah, set for October 31 in Kota Kinabalu.
