KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 ― Bursa Malaysia remained easier at mid-day as mixed sentiment continued to influence interest in the market, dealers said.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended the morning trading at 1,662.34, down 2.68 points from yesterday's close of 1,665.02.

Losses in CIMB dragged down the composite index by 1.038 points.

The stock fell seven sen to RM4.75 with 5.08 million shares transacted.

The weak direction for oil prices had weighed on demand on global bourses, but the better-than-expected Chinese inflation data for September helped mitigate the downside risk.

On Bursa, losers were slightly higher than gainers by 308 to 299, with 369 counters unchanged, 682 untraded and 18 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 730.8 million shares worth RM598.53 million.               

Among heavyweights, Public Bank rose four sen to RM19.78, Petronas Chemicals added one sen to RM6.82 while Maybank was flat at RM7.63.

However, Tenaga shed four sen to RM14.44 and IHH Healthcare slipped one sen to RM6.43.      

Of the actives, Nexgram and Asia Media inched up half-a-sen each to 6.5 sen and 24 sen respectively, but AT Systematization eased one sen to six sen.           

The FBM Emas Index trimmed 9.7 points to 11,748.63, the FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 6.41 points to 12,409.26, the FBM Ace declined 10.5 points to 5,171.34 and the FBMT100 Index lost 10.6 points to 11,446.63.

The FBM 70, however, rose 15.67 points to 13,765.41.   

On a sectoral basis, the Plantation Index fell 7.58 points to 7,898.52, with the Finance Index trimming 6.48 points to 14,256.93 and the Industrial Index losing 6.58 points to 3,119.95. ― Bernama
