KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Bursa Malaysia was volatile at mid-afternoon today underpinned by weak sentiment across-the-board, dealers said.
At 3.02pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,682.26, down 0.81 of a point against yesterday’s close of 1,683.07.
It opened 2.90 points weaker at 1,680.17.
Of the top gainers, DKSH perked 65 sen to RM5.25, BAT chalked up 44 sen to RM50.64, Genting and Ajinomoto added 10 sen each to RM8.16 and RM14.14 respectively and George Kent gained eight sen to RM2.59.
Among the top losers, Dutch Lady shed RM1.90 to RM57.62, Heineken fell 22 sen to RM18.40, Hong Leong Industries declined 21 sen to RM9.05 and Oriental Holdings and Lay Hong erased 20 sen each to RM6.90 and RM9.80 respectively.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index eased 22.53 points to 11,794.14, FBMT100 Index fell 21.09 points to 11,504.66 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 10.58 points to 12,433.17.
The FBM Ace decreased 37.39 points to 5,397.04 and the FBM 70 dwindled 83.08 points at 13,547.46.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index erased 58.38 points to 14,439.21 and the plantation Index slipped 9.02 points to 7,837.06.
The Industrial Index increased 3.17 points to 3,148.66.
Losers outpaced gainers by 484 to 229, with 373 counters unchanged, 602 untraded and 18 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.22 billion shares worth RM881.88 million.
Among heavyweights, TNB and Public Bank lost four sen each to RM14.78 and RM19.76 respectively, Maybank slipped one sen to RM7.99 and IHH eased two sen to RM6.66.
Petronas Chemicals gained three sen to RM6.69.
Of the actives, AirAsia X fell 4.5 sen to 41.5 sen, AirAsia dwindled 20 sen to RM3.02 and M3 Technologies and Borneo Oil eased one sen each to 8.5 sen and 17.5 sen respectively.
Xidelang earned half a sen to four sen. — Bernama
