KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — Stocks on Bursa Malaysia ended higher today following continued buying interest amid profit taking ahead of the weekend, dealers said.

At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished at 1,715.58, up 14.04 points, after moving between 1,698.26 and 1,720.82 throughout the day.

Market breadth was positive with gainers beating losers by 537 to 283, with 298 counters unchanged, 675 untraded and 12 others suspended.

Total volume fell to RM1.67 billion units valued at RM1.66 billion from 1.82 billion units valued at RM1.83 billion yesterday.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index improved 96.07 points to 11,802.08, the FBMT100 Index added 93.83 points to 11,496.65, and the FBM Emas Syariah was 77.64 points better at 12,278.07.

The FBM 70 perked 102.58 points to 12,687.34 and the FBM Ace added 29.92 points to 6,112.48.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index garnered 156.69 points to 15,392.07, the Plantation Index appreciated 74.83 points to 7,468.78 and the Industrial Index was 20.22 points better at 3,161.95.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank rose four sen to RM9.20 and Public Bank added 32 sen to RM18.82, but TNB fell two sen to RM12.54 and Axiata was flat at RM6.31.

Among actives, Perwaja and AirAsia each added three sen to 31.5 sen and RM1.34 respectively, while Multi Sports was one sen lower at 8.5 sen and KNM inched down 1.5 sen to 59.5 sen.

Main Market volume fell to 934.43 million shares worth RM1.4 billion from 1.11 million shares worth RM1.59 billion.

Turnover on the ACE Market contracted to 196.76 million units valued at RM59.66 million from 219.70 million units worth RM75.76 million.

Warrants increased to 541.90 million shares worth RM204.40 million versus 487.06 million shares worth RM158.76 million.

Consumer products accounted for 131.34 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (271.46 million), construction (50.02 million), trade and services (319.57 million), technology (52.17 million), infrastructure (16.63 million), SPAC (3.12 million), finance (28.81 million), hotels (763.90), properties (34.36 million), plantations (9.57 million), mining (0), REITs (16.60 million), and closed/fund (17,500). — Bernama
